Florence, the «procession of giants» parades through the Old Town

It started on Saturday with the “Parade of Giants”, a procession in which three six-meter-tall giant puppets, the “France scene” (the artistic season of the Institut français Italia and the French Embassy in Italy) marched through the streets of the Old Town. This year’s edition is linked to the celebrations for the fifth centenary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci. The puppets, made by French artist Léonard Martin, were inspired by the works of the Renaissance, including The battle of San Romano, the famous triptych by Paolo Uccello. From piazza Ognissanti, the parade went through the streets of the city center, passing through the lungarno Vespucci, Melegnano street, Borgo Ognissanti, Goldoni square, retreating, finally, on the lungarno Vespucci to return to Ognissanti square. The French honorary consul, Manon Hansemann, and the French Foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Dria, attended.
